FROM EGG TO PARROT
:
In the French Alps, 10 kms south of
Grenoble, a family company has started up …from their passion and love
for parrots.
Over one hundred parent birds from
all over the world live on this parrot breeding farm, giving birth to over
one hundred baby parrots a year.
Our parrot egg incubation center is
the only one in France that is officially authorized by the Ministery of
the Environment.
EGGS UNDER STRICT
CONTROL :
Air-conditioned incubation rooms guarantee
a constant temperature throughout the year.
In the incubator, eggs are dated and
marked with a soft pencil and turned upside down twice a day. The computer
records on a daily basis the eggs weight curve, which can be very different
from one to the other.
To date, we have achieved a success
rate of 95%. Through natural parent brooding only 40 out of 100 eggs will
typically hatch.
BOTTLE-FED PARROTS
:
In the hatching box, the chicks need
two or three days to come out of their shell.
As soon as the baby parrots leave the
egg they are hand-fed : one hour after birth and then every two hours,
day and night.
They are weighed before and after every
meal and their growth curve is recorded on a daily basis.
